Last night I had the awesome opportunity to see Jay Z and JT at Yankee Stadium. Yes it was a gazillion degrees and yes it felt like I was in the middle of a swamp hunting gators. But was it worth it? Oh most indeedy sweety. Show was scheduled to start at 8. I’d say it started around 930pm. No opening act outside of DJ Cassidy…who I must say was killing the ones and twos. Anyone who plays Lionel Ritchie’s All night Long…is dope in my book. Oh jambo jambo. I just digressed. My bad. Luckily, we had seats in the Delta Suite where we had our own bars – sushi, liquor, and dessert. YES SUSHI! I wasn’t expecting it either. I think from now on I’m going to need to live that Delta Suite life when I do Yankee Stadium.
Anyhow, they opened the show with what I predicted Holy Grail. I was already liking the song, but my goodness it goes kinda hard live as an opening song. Key things to note: JT’s voice has most definitely improved. He was way on point, every note was impeccable. Hov was also on point with his stage presence. I’ve seen him many times over the years and I would say this show felt like he was the most comfortable.
If you ever want to see a 37 year old Finance Professional turn into a 20 year old hip hop head…follow me to a Hov concert. LOL. I turn into a rapper…I’m rapping as hard as Hov. When he goes off stage I’m back to being a finance professional. My favorite performances of the night was their joint performance of 99 Problems. Loved how they infused JT into that. I also loved loved loved JT’s performance of Pusher Love Girl and My love. He sang My love in falsetto in its entirety. No voice cracking no taking it down an octave for ease. No JT came to blow our minds vocally. And that he did. Every song was flawless. He sang Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York which obviously rolled into Hov’s New York. And that’s when the NYC based crowd lost their minds. Everyone was super hype to sing a hook about their town….but what we didn’t expect was…ALICIA KEYS. Even I was excited and I’m not a huge fan of hers. She too held her own with the notes not sounding like that wretched yelling circa Girl on fire. After that excitement JT brought out Timbaland. Timbaland has clearly stopped his steroid workout plan and has gone back to the Krispy kreme and Fried Chicken diet. Timbo gotta donk like someone’s grandmother. Gracious. I bet he can make it clap. I’d love to see him twerk.
They fake ended the show with suit and tie of course. And then really ended the show with Forever Young. Hov DEMANDED everyone put their cell phones up, as JT sang the chorus, HOV said this is for Trayvon. In the row in front of me, a group of young whites and a black couple linked arms and rocked back and forth waving their cell phones. They didn’t know each other prior to the show. I’m hoping that was for Trayvon too.
All in all it was a great show. Worth every dollar. If there are any tickets available on stubhub for when they are in your area, cop them bitches.
Next up TGT (Tank Ginuwine Tyrese)…I’m sure that one is going to be a doozy.
This was a GREAT review, GP! It made me feel like I was there, as well as WISH I was there. Lately, I’ve been crushing on JT kinda hard, so I’m glad to hear that he killed it and his vocals were on point. Yaaay for him:)
oh jambo jambo, lol. I digressed too and had to play it real quick. Fantastic review GP. Now I am absolutely dying to go somewhere to see them. Love JT and JayZ. Would have loved to be with you watching you rap as hard as Hov. And lmao @ timbaland having a donk like someones grandmother. Can’t wait to hear about TGT. KEEP WRITING!!!
Thanks KD and ladybird dyan! I will be writing up TGT in a few days.
